Kindle for Android app released

Amazon have released a Kindle app for Android – woohoo! Now you can download and ready eBooks on your Android device – and yes it works for Australians. See here for more details – including a scannable QR code to download the app. Or search for Kindle in the Market.

If you have multiple devices (i.e. a Kindle, maybe the Kindle for PC software as well), this app will keep your ‘last read page’ synched as well, so it should be a seamless transition between devices.

I’ve managed to buy an eBook to test it out, so it definitely works for Aussies, but the full list of markets (from the website):

HTC Legend coming to Australia – Vodafone, Three

According to the HTC Twitter account (@htc) Vodafone will be releasing the HTC Legend on 3rd June and it will also be available on Three (but no date announced for that). Good news for the Aussie market. The HTC Legend is kind of the HTC Hero 2 but sadly will only have a 600Mhz CPU (hopefully this is wrong!). Also depends on if you like the ‘chin’ that comes with this model phone.

The Australian HTC site doesn’t have any more details other than ‘coming soon’, so head over the UK site and get your drool going. Android 2.1, AMOLED screen, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS yada yada yada.

TFS 2010

Microsoft’s Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010 was released earlier this year. To quote Microsoft, TFS “is the collaboration platform at the core of Microsoft’s application lifecycle management solution that automates the software delivery process and enables organizations to effectively manage software development projects throughout the IT life cycle.”

Without the marketing speak, TFS provides:

a powerful source control system
team collaboration workspaces (via SharePoint)
work items and process templates (tasks, bugs, user stories, etc)
reporting for all kinds of roles involved in software projects – developers, testers, project managers etc.
test development and even test lab management
a build server that supports continuous integration
integration with Visual Studio (of course), a web interface, a SharePoint portal and an API that enables third party tools
and much more…

The 2010 release of the product is a great leap forward in terms of functionality over the 2008 and 2005 releases (as you would expect). Over the coming months I aim to write TFS related articles that cover these main areas of functionality. It really is a massive beast of a product so I expect there to be a lot of articles!

Finally the official Android 2.1 ROM has been released for the HTC Hero – albeit for the Sprint Hero only (the US CDMA version). It can’t be long now until they release the official ROM for the GSM version of the Hero surely?

I’ve started putting together a guide to Android phones for Australians – you can get it here. Hopefully I can keep it up to date over time, but it contains an overview of phones currently available in Australia and other key things to know about Android.
