Kindle for Android app released

Filed under: android — Craig Harvey @ 2:22 pm

Amazon have released a Kindle app for Android – woohoo! Now you can download and ready eBooks on your Android device – and yes it works for Australians. See here for more details – including a scannable QR code to download the app. Or search for Kindle in the Market.

If you have multiple devices (i.e. a Kindle, maybe the Kindle for PC software as well), this app will keep your ‘last read page’ synched as well, so it should be a seamless transition between devices.

I’ve managed to buy an eBook to test it out, so it definitely works for Aussies, but the full list of markets (from the website):

Kindle for Android is currently available for customers in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States

Are you an Aussie interested in getting an Android phone? See my guide to Android for Australians for more details.

  1. Harv,
It’s worth noting that when Optus launch the Galaxy S this week that “Borders has partnered with Samsung for the launch of the Galaxy S to promote the Borders eReader application on the handset. Consumers who get a hold of the handset through before August 31st will receive a free download of either The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas or Underbelly: The Golden Mile by John Silvester and Andrew Rule.”
